“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”
Carl Rogers
My personal philosophy of counseling is to be a guide or facilitator of each client’s journey of self-exploration, self-understanding, and self-awareness. I believe the client is the expert in their own life story and can successfully solve problems, change, meet challenges, and heal with the support from counseling.
I believe that every client is unique in their situations and in the experiences brought to counseling.
I graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis on Child Life. I received my Masters of Science in Counseling from South Dakota State University. I completed my doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Adams State University.
Over the years, I have practiced in the Rapid City area and on the Pine Ridge Reservation working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have worked with a non-profit agency, a juvenile center, a domestic violence shelter, schools, Employee Assistance Programs, and children and families with Ellsworth Air Force Base and the National Guard.
I have facilitated youth therapeutic groups, youth adventure-based groups, women’s empowerment groups, Talking Circles, bullying groups, suicide prevention and debriefing groups, and children of deployed military members groups. I have provided psychoeducational classes and presentations on bullying, suicide prevention, stress management, pre-teen parenting, and communication with children.
